Dies Natalis Solis Invicti

Deus Sol Invictus - invincible Sun God - was a title applied to at least 3 distinct deities, during the later Roman Empire.

Earlier cult of Sol Indiges was agrarian.

Romans held a festival on December 25,  Dies Natalis Solis Invicti - birthday of the invincible Sun.

Emperor Elagabalus introduced the festival and it reached the height of popularity under Aurelian. He promoted it as an empire-wide holiday - a possible inspiration of Christmas.

Mokshada Ekadashi

When the wise, witness that in all their activity, there is no agent of action other than, three hues of  mind;

They realize the Self, to be beyond these hues, and attain to the Supreme Self

- Battleground Counsel,  Chapter 14,  Verse 19

------------------------------------------

If your mind is in trouble, pain, misery, bondage, confusion, complications, this is an emergency; you are drowning yourself. And you need to help yourself first.

Your need to hold on to people, control people and things, punishes you. Your possessiveness punishes you. And the leash of your own mind, slips away from you.

When one's five sense organs/perceptions, and one's mind are not leashed, these six elements cause suffering.

Karunya pitris

Maha-Vishnu is deemed protector of Maha-laya shrardhas

Great-Vishnu is Lord of  Mercury, ruler of Gemini and exalted Virgo.

Maha-laya Amavasya / New moon of great harmony, is when Maatri moon and Pitri sun are conjunct, at the zenithal constellation of Virgo; when blue Earth transits it's orbital nadir at the funeral cot legs - Bhadra-pada -, or Pegasus

The darkening fortnight that precedes this new moon day, is Pitri Paksha, the ancestors' fortnight

- as held in tradition.

Even a little sadhana -practices-, if done properly, can bring Riddhi and Siddhi, into one's life. It is not a big deal.

To travel in the air, is no big deal.

To walk  on fire, is no big deal.

A practitioner once came to Ramakrishna Paramhamsa, and demonstrated his siddhi, of walking on water.

And Ramakrishna harrumphed, "You spent 30 years in sadhana to attain this one cent worth  siddhi? A ferryman can merrily take you across the river for just a cent. Whatever have you done?"

Chinmaya Aradana

The night was dark, stormy.

The river was in spate.

A corpse was floating by. Rambola rafted across, reached Ratna's home.

Climbed up a vine, swung himself into Ratna's quarters.

"Propelled by my passion for you, I can cross oceans," he announced  to her.

"With all this passion, if  you had only turned around, by now you would have reached your core", she observed.

He became silent, turned inward, reached his core.

Parvati jayanti

To renounce is to not leave everything behind, wear a loin cloth, and sit at a river bank

It means, we are not tethered by ropes of likes &  dislikes, to objects or subjects.

It means, we do not hoard, create stockpiles. There is this woman in her 80's, who indulges in sweets - only twice a year.

Once, on Ram Navami.  And six months later, during the festival of Debilitated Luminaires.

Walluwar Jayanti

When you go on a pilgrimage you reach a site, a tirth

It could be a building, a spot, a river bank, a temple built by kings, a mystic's tenement, . . . .

But in your life, when your mind recedes, . . . stations, . . .  becomes still, . . . that experience is Tirth
